The Brenau University softball team defeated Milligan University 6-5 Saturday to capture the 2019 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship.
The squad entered the tournament as the fourth seed, but rolled through four straight wins, outscoring opponents 25-6, including a 7-1 win over top-seeded Truett-McConnell University.
The victory marks the fourth title for head coach Devon Thomas and the Golden Tigers softball program, which previously won Southern States Athletic Conference titles in 2009, 2012 and 2017.
Brenau is now headed to the NAIA Championships.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Brenau track and field team used its superior depth to win the 2019 Appalachian Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships Saturday.
The championship marks a sixth team title in the eight-year history of the program, including winning five straight Southern States Athletic Conference titles from 2013-2017.
The squad amassed 228 points to easily outpace second-place Columbia College (South Carolina) by 87 points.
Brenau’s depth was evident as the team posted 30 individual top eight finishes and three top eight relays at the championships.
