More than 170 pounds of prescription drugs were left with the Hall County Sheriff's Office during last weekend's Drug Take-Back Day.

Sgt. Terry Baines and Community Service Officer Chuck Poteet set up shop with pharmacists from Kroger in Flowery Branch, while Lt. Scott Ware and Maritza Carlos collected unwanted prescription drugs at Walmart in Oakwood.

When all was said and done, according to an entry in the latest county newsletter, they ended up with 176 pounds of prescription medications. In addition, the Sheriff's Office emptied one of its permanent disposal drop boxes for an additional 68 pounds.

The medication was destroyed per U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration guidelines, according to the posting.

For those who missed the event, the Sheriff's Office has two permanent drop boxes that are available year-round. They're accessible during regular business hours in the lobbies of the HCSO Headquarters at 2859 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville and the South Precinct at 7345 Cody Drive in Flowery Branch.
