Rain delays NASCAR Cup Series Michigan race to Monday

Posted 4:37PM on Sunday 9th June 2019 ( 5 years ago )

After coming oh-so-close to getting today’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway underway, Mother Nature has taken a hand again.

Persistent rain showers has pushed the FireKeepers Casino 400 to Monday afternoon at 5 pm.

Wet weather worked through the Brooklyn, Michigan area during the morning hours, and set the scheduled start back by about an hour Sunday afternoon.

But the rains returned just as the field was getting ready to take the green flag.  NASCAR and Track officials worked to try to get the track race ready, but with more rain expected this evenign and into tomorrow morning, officials made the call to postpone the race.

The 5 pm start on Monday afternoon is due to the expected showers in the area through tomorrow morning, allowing enough time to properly dry and prep the 2-mile speedway for race conditions.

Once the race gets underway, Joey Logano will bring the field down to the green flag, with Aric Almirola alongside.  Kevin Harvick will roll off from third, with Denny Hamlin in fourth and Clint Bowyer in fifth.

Paul Menard, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. rounds out the top ten starters.

Dawsonville, Georgia’s Chase Elliott starts from the 17th position.

WDUN will have live MRN Radio coverage of the rain delayed FireKeepers 400 from Michigan International Speedway beginning at 5 pm on 102.9 FM.

Trucks dry the track during a rain delay for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. The wet weather postponed the event to Monday afternoon.
