A woman who was struck and seriously injured by a Gainesville Police Department vehicle on Atlanta Highway Tuesday night will face charges, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP SFC Austin Allen said the accident happened Tuesday night just after 9:15 p.m.

Vickie Barber, 57, was walking across Atlanta Highway near Lyman Street when she was struck by a 2017 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle being driven by Officer Brittany Frantzreb with the Gainesville Police Department. According to police department reports, Frantzreb was on her way to assist another officer at the scene of a domestic violence call on Atlanta Highway when the crash occurred.

Allen said Barber was attempting to cross Atlanta Highway from the east to the west shoulder of the road when she was struck. He said Barber was not in a crosswalk at the time.

The Gainesville Police Department released dash cam video of the crash Wednesday morning. (The video can be viewed at the top of this article.)

According to Allen, Barber sustained serious injuries when she was hit; she was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

The Georgia State Patrol will charge Barber with the offenses of pedestrian under the influence and pedestrian not in a crosswalk while crossing the roadway.

Frantzreb, a four year veteran of Gainesville PD, was not injured in the crash.
