QuikTrip is planning a convenience store at a busy intersection in Gainesville and wants a section of a nearby street abandoned to help accommodate the development.
The proposal is scheduled to go before the city's planning and appeals board August 13.
The store is planned at the intersection of Jesse Jewell Parkway and Queen City Parkway on a corner occupied for years until just a few years ago by a private residence.
In addition to requesting that part of Gordon Avenue be abandoned, the applicant also wants to tear down an abandoned two-story motel and office building near the intersection.
"The applicant is proposing to abandon a portion of Gordon Avenue in order to combine the right-of-way with the adjacent properties to develop a QuikTrip gas station/convenience store and canopy," according to information provided by the city as part of the application. "The right-of-way and adjacent property are zoned General Business (G-B) and are located within the Midtown Overlay Zone which allows for a gas station/convenience store on properties 2.0 acres or larger in size of which the development will exceed. In addition, the property will be lowered to the elevation of Jesse Jewell Parkway. Inter parcel access will be provided to Jesse Jewell Parkway, Queen City Parkway, East Avenue and the remaining segment of Gordon Avenue."
Also on the agenda for that planning and appeals board meeting is a request from the city 395.69 acres at 1701 Fulenwider Road from Residential-I-A (R-I-A) to Heavy Industrial (H-I) for unspecified industrial uses as part of the planned 85 Business Park property.
The property was originally annexed and zoned in 1991 for a land application farm for wastewater which was never constructed and is the site of the Gainesville Public Lands and Buildings maintenance facility and the Kubota ATV test track.
