A Braselton man faces murder and aggravated assault charges after a shooting incident Friday afternoon.

Allen Bredig, 62, apparently called Jackson County 911 around 4:50 p.m. Friday, saying there had been a shooting at his home just off Hwy. 53.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum says Bredig advised dispatchers that the victim of the shooting, 52-year-old Braselton reident William Halbman, had come to his residence, at which point an argument ensued. Sheriff Mangum says Bredig acknowledged that he then shot Halbman inside the home.

The victim, said to be an acquaintance of the alleged shooter, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was then pronounced dead.

Bredig is now being held in the Jackson County Jail, where Mangum said he faces charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene shortly after the shooting, and Mangum said the investigation is ongoing.
