CLEVELAND – Foul play is not suspected in the deaths of an elderly couple found Monday afternoon at a campground north of Cleveland.

The couple was found dead in a camper where they lived at Yonah Mountain Campground when deputies responded to conduct a welfare check on them about 3:45 p.m. Monday, July 29, according to White County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Kelley.

A welfare check on the elderly couple was requested after they were not seen for several days, according to Kelley.

Deputies entered the camper on Fleetwood Road and found the two residents deceased inside, according to Kelley. The couple had been deceased for several days.

The sheriff’s office requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to process the scene. The bodies were sent to the GBI State Crime Lab in Decatur for autopsies.

Kelley said foul play is not suspected at this time. Determination of the cause of death will follow the autopsy.

“The next of kin have not been notified yet, so we are not going to release the names at this time,” Kelley said Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation continues.
