The developers of a Quik Trip convenience store at one of the busiest intersections in Gainesville have gotten a favorable recommendation for a street abandonment tied to their plans. But, it comes with an unusual condition attached to it.
Part of the city planning staff's recommendation calls for the developers to install a "Welcome to Gainesville" sign on their property.
The recommendation says the sign should have space "on either side" to provide for the addition of the city's logo and branding.
The section of Gordon Avenue which the developers want abandoned is adjacent to their property at the corner of Jesse Jewell and Queen City parkways.
The planning staff has also recommended approval of a rezoning request from the city for 396 acres of city-owned property on Fulenwider Road. The city considers it a potential location for a business park or industrial park.
Both matters are scheduled to go before the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board on Tuesday.
