The City of Flowery Branch has declared Friday, August 16 "Logan Simmons Day" in the city in honor of the young Chick-Fil-A employee who saved a child from choking earlier this summer.

Simmons, 19, received a Citizen's Lifesaving Award from Flowery Branch Police Chief David Spillers prior to Thursday night's city council meeting.

"This award is presented to Logan Simmons for his quick actions that saved a life on Tuesday, June 25, 2019," Spillers said, reading from a proclamation. "On that day, he responded to a mother's plea in the parking lot - her child's neck was entangled in a seat belt and they were struggling to get the child to breathe."

Spillers said Simmons jumped through the drive-thru window at the Chick-Fil-A on Spout Springs Road and cut the seat belt to free the little boy.

"[He] thereby saved that child's life," Spillers said.

The surveillance video of Simmons jumping through the drive-thru window and rushing to the child's aid went viral.

Following the presentation of the lifesaving award, Mayor Mike Miller surprised Simmons by declaring Friday would be "Logan Simmons Day" in Flowery Branch.

Simmons, by the way, will have to work on his special day. He'll be on duty at Chick-Fil-A from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
