A year-long signage and mileage marker update of the trails at Elachee Nature Science Center in Gainesville has been completed, which is expected to enhance hiker navigation along the trails in Chicopee Woods.
The work, along the eight-mile network of trails within the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve, was completed by Elachee's Volunteer Trail Crew. Their efforts were supplemented by volunteer teams from area businesses and civic groups who assist with special Preserve projects.
New wayfinding signs reflect trail blaze color and mileage, and an updated map is now in circulation.
Some members of this team have been working these hiking trails for years. Others joined the team after participating in a special project with their employer group or club.
