The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic on both the northbound and southbound approaches to the Longstreet Bridge north of Gainesville on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland said a single lane closure will be put in place at midnight Monday on Cleveland Highway (SR 11/US 129) on the approach to the bridge over the Chattahoochee River, which will allow crews to continue pouring on the new bridge's driving surface. Strickland said the single lane closure will remain in place until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
"Then we have a traffic shift scheduled to start about 10 a.m., and it's going to move people over to the newly-paved lanes on the approaches to Longstreet Bridge," Strickland said.
She said southbound traffic will shift to the left, while northbound traffic will shift to the right.
The shift will allow allow GDOT crews to safely construct two of the remaining retaining walls.
"This shift is going to stay in place until we open the new Longstreet Bridge," Strickland said.
GDOT anticipates the new bridge will be completed by late December 2019.
