The Gainesville Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Lake Lanier Convention & Visitors Bureau's Stacey Dickson were among the winners of nine tourism awards at the recent Governor's Tourism Conference.

In addition, it was announced that next year's conference will be held at Lanier Islands.

Dickson, the President of the Lake Lanier CVB, picked up the Larry Allen Tourism Leadership Award.  The Gainesville CVB is the winner of one of two Al Burrus Awards for Creative Expression which were presented at the conference which was held in LaGrange.

In remarks to the gathering, Gov. Brian Kemp recognized the performance and impact of the state’s tourism industry.

Visitors in Georgia spent an estimated $31 billion in 2018 – a 4.8% increase over 2017, and as visitor spending climbed, so did the overall number of visitors.  In 2018, Georgia welcomed a record 111.67 million visitors which supported 475,000 jobs and generated $66.2 billion in economic impact, up 4.7 percent over 2017.

The 2020 Georgia Governor's Tourism Conference will be held August 30-September 2 at Lanier Islands Legacy Lodge.
