*Registration is underway for this year's Gwinnett County Citizens Police Academy.   Applications for the spring session must be submitted no later than February3, and can be found on the volunteer opportunity page of the GCPD website.  Applicants may also submitted for the Fall 2020 session.

*The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce has plans to welcome new members and expanding businesses with three ribbon-cutting ceremonies this month:  Oakwood Family Dental, Jan. 7, 10:00; Oasis On Lanier Personal Care Home, Gainesville, Jan. 9, 4:00; and, Smile Doctors Braces, Gainesville, Jan. 30, 11:45.

*A Habersham EMC contractor, Davey Resources Group, will begin an electric system inventory in the Baldwin area this week. DRG employees, trucks and ATVs will be marked as HEMC contractors.  A posting on the EMC's Facebook page says this work will enable the electric co-op to further reduce outage response time by more accurately identifying device locations. Visit habershamemc.com for more information.

*Two Cumming Police officers were recognized at the Dec. 17 city council meeting.   Tracey See-Holbrook, was named Officer of the Year by Chief David Marsh. Officer Shaw Bowman was presented with the city’s Lifesaving Award for “outstanding efforts” to save the life of a woman who was found unresponsive after a drug overdose.

*The newest member of the Gainesville City Council, Juli Clay, will be sworn in Tuesday at the annual organizational meeting of the Mayor and City Council.  Clay replaces longtime councilwoman and former mayor Ruth Bruner, who chose not to seek re-election last year.

*As AccessWDUN previously reported, two roads in Lula, Lula Road and Athens Street, will be closed this week for "one to two days" for repairs to railroad crossings, and parts of Flowery Branch Road and the road's bridge over I-85 will be closed for up to six months as part of the widening of the interstate.
