A Gainesville man arrested a year ago for molesting a 14-year-old boy was convicted Thursday following a three-day trial in Hall County Superior Court.

Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh said a jury took just one hour to convict Lawrence Ryan Chisolm, 39, on one count of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation.

"The defendant was sentenced to life with 30 years to serve on the aggravated child molestation [count] and to 30 years to do 15 on one of the child molestation counts with 20 years to do 15 on the other child molestation count, both concurrent to the sentence on count one," Darragh said in an email statement.

Darragh said Judge Clint Bearden presided over the case. Investigator Tom Wilson of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office was the primary investigator and the primary prosecutor was ADA Rachel Tomlinson assisted by Senior ADA Kelley Robertson, according to Darragh.

"Child molestation is not to be tolerated in our circuit," Darragh said. "My hat’s off to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s team involved in this case for holding this perpetrator accountable for his actions. Hopefully, his young victim can find some solace in what the jury did here today as he continues his recovery."

Chisolm was arrested on January 25, 2019. The crimes occurred in October 2018, according to information released by law enforcement at the time of the arrest.
