Northeast Georgia Physicians Group hopes to make getting flu vaccinations easier with three drive-thru events to be held in different locations on Saturdays in October.
Doctors with NGPG have been encouraging North Georgia residents to get their flu shots as early as possible in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"The flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent the flu," said Dr. Supriya Mannepalli, an infectious disease expert with NGPG. "It’s also the best way to make sure you stay well and won’t need hospitalization for flu. We have already seen cases of the flu in our community, and we advise getting the flu shot before the end of October. Those with egg allergy can also receive the flu vaccine. We absolutely want you to remain healthy and productive in your community."
While a flu vaccine does not offer protection against the coronavirus, the goal is to keep flu hospitalizations lower, ensuring there is room for COVID-19 patients to be treated.
Anyone 6 months to 64 years of age can receive a flu shot at the drive-thru events. Those who plan to receive a vaccination at a drive-thru should bring valid ID and an insurance card. Flu shots for uninsured patients are $25.
The drive-thru events for the rest of the month are scheduled as follows:
- October 10: NGPG Buford, 8 a.m. – noon
- October 17: NGPG Toccoa, 8 a.m. – noon
- October 24: Medical Park 2 in Gainesville, 8 a.m. – noon
