As the initial phases of construction begins on the Gainesville Renaissance project, the city of Gainesville will close several upper levels of the adjacent Main Street Parking Deck starting Monday, Nov. 2.
Public access to levels 3-5, plus the restroom area, will be suspended for two weeks, allowing for garage modifications as part of the overall project design. The parking deck entrance facing the historic downtown square will also be closed, while the Main Street entrance remains open.
City officials are encouraging visitors who plan to patronize downtown restaurants and retailers to use the marked parking spaces on the square, as well as the side streets feeding into the square. The Hall County Parking Facility will also be accessible.
Gainesville Renaissance, located on the “fourth side of the square,” will be a three-story mixed-use development, with retail and restaurant components occupying the first floor. Brenau University’s Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling will be located on the second level and eight luxury condos will make up the third level. The project is set to be completed by winter 2022.
A private pedestrian bridge will connect Gainesville Renaissance and the parking deck, providing condo residents safe and convenient access to parking from the third floor.
