A Talmo man was killed late Friday night in a pedestrian accident on Athens Highway just southeast of Gainesville.

Sgt. Charles Parker with the Georgia State Patrol said the fatal accident happened around 11:50 p.m.about a quarter mile north of Smallwood Road.

"The investigation showed that Jonathan Calvin Cross, 37, of Talmo was walking southbound in the northbound lane of Athens Highway when he was struck by a Chevrolet Express Van," Parker said in an email statement. "The van was driven by Mohammad Bedarul Hussain, 56, of Cumming, Georgia."

Parker said the van driver will not be charged in the accident. He said the victim died at the scene.

Cross' death was one of three pedestrian deaths in the Gainesville area in a two-day time period. On Friday afternoon, an Oakwood man was killed when he was struck by a commercial vehicle on Thompson Bridge Road just north of the bridge. On Saturday night, a Toccoa woman died when she was involved in a hit-and-run collision on Athens Street; the driver in that incident remains at large.
