NASCAR Cup Series to try again at Texas on Wednesday

Posted 8:03PM on Tuesday 27th October 2020 ( 4 years ago )

After three days, Clint Bowyer continues to lead the NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

That’s because the running of the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 at the Fort Worth, Texas raceway has been delayed again by weather.  NASCAR will make their next attempt to restart the event on Wednesday at 3 pm EST.

Bowyer moved to the lead just before the race was red flagged for weather on Sunday on lap 52.  Since then, the only vehicles to make laps around the 1.44-mile raceway have been working to dry the track.

After washouts Sunday evening and Monday, NASCAR and track officials were hopeful on getting the race back underway on Tuesday.

They came very close, with NASCAR going so far as to plan to restart the event at 8:30 pm EST.

But the mist and fog returned and just before 8 pm EST Tuesday, the call was made to push the race to Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm EST.

After being postponed to Tuesday due to misty, foggy conditions, race officials hoped for enough of a break in the weather to get the race restarted.  The forecast for Wednesday is also calling for cold temperatures and additional precipitation.

Getting the Texas race in is paramount with just three races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.  The series is set to run the final cutoff race, determining the four drivers who will contend for the title, on Sunday at Martinsville, Virginia.  The following Sunday, the 2020 series champion will be decided at Phoenix, Arizona.

That leaves little time for a make up date if the Texas race, the second race of the Round  of 8, should it not be run this week.

When the race restarts, Bowyer will be the leader, with Jimmie Johnson second, Erik Jones third, Joey Logano fourth and Martin Truex, Jr. in fifth.

Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Austin Dillon, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch rounded out the top 10 at the time of the red flag.

WDUN will carry live PRN Radio coverage of the completion of the race Wednesday beginning at 3 pm EST on 102.9 FM and streaming online on AccessWDUN.
