The search is on for a woman who robbed a bank branch inside the Publix grocery store at 1000 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Suwanee Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Robert Thompson with the Suwanee Police Department said the suspect handed the teller a note, demanding money.

"They then gave her an amount of cash and she left the area, we believe on foot," Thompson said.

Thompson declined to discuss the specific information in the note, citing the ongoing investigation, but he said the incident is considered an armed robbery.

Thompson said officers were called to the scene at 1:07 p.m., and investigators believe someone saw the woman and can help them track her down.

"It's actually a pretty busy Publix, especially at that time with a lot of people coming and going from lunch, so the parking was very crowded, " Thompson said. "We feel there are a lot of people who may have seen her especially in the parking lot."

Thompson said the suspect is white, 40 to 50 years-old. She was wearing a white Atlanta Braves hat, denim overalls, a green and white blouse and a gray or green pea coat tossed over her shoulders. He said she was also wearing red and tan two-toned gloves.

Anyone who can provide information on the suspect is asked to call the Suwanee Police Department at 770-945-8995. The lead detective on the case, Det. Belcher, can be contacted at 770-904-7629.
