Regions Bank is closing the branch location it has on Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville June 5.
Spokesman Mel Campbell confirmed the Birmingham-based bank holding company's plans Thursday. It's not the first Regions branch closing in Hall County in recent years. Locations at McEver and Mundy Mill roads, at Sherwood Plaza, and in Clermont have also been shuttered.
“We did announce to associates and to customers of that branch that it would be consolidating with another branch in the near vicinity on June 5," Campbell said in an emailed statement Thursday. "We will consolidate with the branch on Shallowford Road, which is less than 2 miles away. For customers, no account numbers or similar information will change. Obviously, customers can visit any of our branches for their business.”
In discussing plans to close the bank branch, Campbell referred to the changing face of banking in the digital age as it relates to both the institutions and their customers.
“We...recognize that customers are managing their financial needs through a combination of digital, traditional and alternative channels. Our customers can choose from a variety of our flexible and convenient options to bank when, how and where they choose. This review identified opportunities to consolidate select branch locations based on traffic, new technology, volume, location of other branches, profitability, and other data, and we recently announced the difficult decision to consolidate our Dawsonville Highway location with our branch on Shallowford Road."
Campbell, while not disclosing the number of employees that will be affected by the bank's closing, says Regions will do what it can "to make the transition as smooth as possible, and we will make every effort to identify other jobs in the company for affected associates, where possible.”
