The Hall County School Board has approved Marla Lear as the new principal of Myers Elementary School. Lear will take over for current principal Beth Hudgins on June 1, 2020. Hudgins is retiring at the end of the 2020 school year.
Board members approved Lear's appointed Monday evening.
Lear began her career in the Hall County School District in 2005 as a paraprofessional at Spout Springs Elementary School. In 2008, she transitioned to the role of teacher at World Language Academy, serving at both the elementary and middle school campuses. She remained in that capacity until 2016, before being named the assistant principal at CW Davis Middle School. In 2017, she returned to World Language Academy Elementary School as an assistant principal, which is her current position with the district.
"During my 15 years in the Hall County School District, I’ve had the opportunity to experience its caring and dedicated environment as a parent, teacher, and administrator," said Lear in a media statement. "Now, I will strive to lead with the same grace and compassion at Myers Elementary. I am looking forward to growing and learning with the Myers community.”
Lear holds a Bachelor of Arts/Early Childhood Education Degree from Brenau University, a Master of Education degree from Georgia State University and an Education Specialist Degree from Piedmont College.
