A Lawrenceville man died as a result of his injuries from a head-on collision with a tree on Sunday night.

According to a news release from Gwinnett County Police, twenty one year-old Josue Hernandez-Cano was traveling north on Lawrenceville Highway in a grey Infiniti G37 around 7:30 p.m. when he swerved to miss a white Acura TSX driven by twenty year-old Alvero Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was attempting to turn left onto Lawrenceville Highway from James Road.

Both vehicles swerved to miss one another and eventually collided before coming to a stop. The car driven by Gonzalez stopped in the middle of the highway while the car driven by Hernandez-Cano continued off the road before hitting a tree at the intersection of Church Road.

Hernandez-Cano later died as a result of his injuries. Neither Gonzalez nor a passenger who was with him in the car sustained serious injuries.

The collision is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
