One of the busiest corridors in Forsyth County is State Route (SR) 9 and county engineers expect traffic to increase in the coming years, meaning the highway needs to be widened in some places.

The Forsyth County Department of Engineering is now holding a virtual open house where residents can view interactive maps and provide feedback on the planning study for State Route 9, which calls for the widening of the corridor from SR 306 to SR 369. Residents can visit Forsythco.com/SR9Study to participate in the virtual open house.

"Each day as I travel home on SR 9, congestion and backups grow worse. It is imperative that we do everything we can to have this section of SR 9 identified as a road that should be incorporated into the regional transportation plan - as well as GDOT’s plan - and this study can help do that," said District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills in a press statement issued by the county. “Your input and participation are essential to the success of this study.”

Comments on the study materials will be accepted online through May 25.

"While this segment of SR 9 serves about 10,000 vehicles a day, projections into the future suggest that traffic and development growth will continue and result in over 25,000 vehicles a day,” said Forsyth County Director of Engineering John Cunard.
