A man accused of attacking a Gainesville Police Department officer earlier this week remained in the Hall County Jail on Thursday morning.
According to information released by Gainesville police, officers were called to Summit Street on Monday, June 1, where a man was reported to be behaving abnormally, carrying a stick or a paddle into businesses.
"When officers arrived, they witnessed [Sebastian] Marcos-Bautista in a tussle with other individuals," said Corporal Jessica Van in an email statement. "Shortly after, officers attempted to detain him."
The suspect had a gold crucifix wrapped around his fist with the sharp end of the crucifix exposed, according to Van.
"He struck our female officer on her head, causing a laceration/bleeding," Van said.
Marcos-Bautista, 31, has been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and obstruction. Jail records also indicate he has been placed under an immigration hold.
