A Gainesville police officer suffered a facial disfigurement late Monday night when his nose was bitten by a suspect during the course of an arrest.
Although details are limited, the Gainesville Police Department said city resident Kenton Thompson, 31, was being taken into custody on unknown drug-related charges at the HomeTown Studios on Jesse Jewell Parkway when he attempted to escape officers on foot.
"When officers caught up to Thompson, he began to physically resist and fight with them," said Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook. "During this struggle, Thompson bit the end of the officer’s nose, which resulted in serious injury and disfigurement to his face."
Thompson was later booked into the Hall County Jail, and faces charges of Aggravated Battery, Felony Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug-related Objects.
The injured officer was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
His identity has not been released, and his condition is unknown at this time.
