An investigation is underway after a Winterville man apparently drowned in Lake Lanier on Friday.

Major Mike England with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said that 59-year-old Bruce Hild jumped out of his boat in the area of Duckett Mill Campground just after 6:00 p.m.

"He was swimming around and had an issue and didn't resurface," England said.

Hall and Forsyth County authorities were called to assist with the recovery of the man's body, and they were able to locate the victim later in the evening.

England said the Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. He said no foul play is suspected at this time.
