A three-year-old child hospitalized earlier this week after a near-drowning in Jackson County has passed away from his injuries.
Oakland Potts died Wednesday afternoon, according to a message from Jackson County Sheriff Janus Mangum confirming a social media post made by Potts' mother, Mallory.
"They disconnected life support today and he passed at 3:39 [p.m.]," Mangum said. "I am heartbroken."
According to an incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to aa Nicholson-area residence on Wilson Cemetery Road at 2:34 p.m. Monday, July 20. They discovered a Potts in the area of a backyard pool and one of the deputies began to perform CPR on the child.
Potts was hospitalized at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, and his name was not been made public until after his death.
The report said an adult woman and two juveniles were at the residence at the time of the incident. No other details have been released.
