Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Family Medicine in Gainesville plans to further diversify its services by providing women’s health services and training resident physicians.

The new women’s health services will be overseen by Margaret Erwood, MD, and midwife Michele Clark, CNM, according to a press release from Northeast Georgia Health System.

“We are pleased to offer family-centered maternity care services along with well-woman care to our patients here at NGPG Family Medicine,” says Dr. Monica Newton of NGPG Family Medicine in a prepared statement.

According to the press release, Dr. Erwood earned her medical degree from Roy J. & Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Case Western Reserve University and Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, and her Family Medicine Residency at WellStar Atlanta Medical Center. The release says Dr. Erwood looks forward to sharing her knowledge with resident physicians and caring for patients at NGPG Family Medicine.

Michele Clark, CNM earned her Master of Science in nursing from Emory University and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of North Georgia. She has practiced as a certified nurse-midwife for 25 years. Midwives are healthcare providers who are trained and licensed in both nursing and midwifery to help women across their lifespan and during the birthing process, according to the press release.

“Dr. Erwood and Michele Clark each bring a unique set of skills to our practice and both have a true passion for teaching. Our Family Medicine residents are fortunate to be mentored by these dynamic women’s health professionals,” Dr. Newton said in a prepared statement.

NGPG Family Medicine offers a wide variety of services for the entire family, according to the press release. The new women’s health services add to these previously established services by providing well-woman exams, family planning and contraceptive management, and care for non-surgical gynecological problems.

NGPG Family Medicine is located off Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville and is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
