A high-speed car chase from Barrow County into the Athens area resulted in a collision with a police vehicle, severely injuring that officer.
On Monday, Barrow County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle when the suspect fled. The pursuit ended when his vehicle crashed into that of Sgt. Paul Davidson, an Athens-Clarke County Police Officer, who was stopped at a traffic light, completely uninvolved in the incident up until that point.
According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, firefighters had to use the “Jaws of Life” tool to get Davidson out of his vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center but has since been released and is recovering at home.
The suspect, Henry Daniel Green, age 25 of Winder, fled from police when they tried to stop him for a broken taillight. The chase resulted in speeds at over 100mph along Atlanta Highway. When Green tried to go around a stopped vehicle, he struck a Dodge Challenger instead, and lost control of his truck, crashing into Sgt. Davidson’s stopped patrol car.
Deputies found three individuals inside the car, but no one would admit to being the driver at first. It wasn’t initially clear who had been behind the wheel and, after originally denying it, Green eventually confessed to being the driver. All three individuals were taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Green faces charges in both Barrow and Clarke counties. In Barrow, his charges are attempting to elude police and reckless driving. Charges in Clarke county are pending.
