A man who used a crowbar to break into a church in Flowery Branch late Tuesday night was quickly apprehended by local police.

Investigator Robin Kemp with the Flowery Branch Police Department said Mark Elton Murray, 39, of Auburn burglarized 12 Stone Church on Martin Road around 11:30 p.m.

"Murray took several miscellaneous items from the church and used a crowbar in an attempt to break into the main part of the church," Kemp said in an email statement. "Fortunately, the burglar alarm at the church went off and when police arrived, Murray fled the scene, running into the nearby woods."

Kemp said Flowery Branch officers requested help from a Hall County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit.

"[The K-9] tracked Murray where he found lying next to creek. He was arrested without further incident," Kemp said.

Murray also had outstanding arrest warrants out of Barrow County for motor vehicle theft and out of Gwinnett County for theft by receiving. At last report, Murray remained in the Hall County Jail.
