Hoschton package store owner charged with selling alcohol, tobacco to minors

After receiving complaints from the public about clerks at a local package store selling alcohol, tobacco and vape pens to underage customers, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office has arrested the owner of the business. 
 
Jackson County Sheriff Janus Mangum confirmed Mahbub Alam, 47, of Lawrenceville is the license holder for Hoschton Discount Beer and Tobacco.
 
A social media post by the sheriff's office said Alam was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 15 after a lengthy investigation and charged with three counts of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and one count of furnishing tobacco to a minor. At last report, Alam remained in the Jackson County Jail. 
 
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to call local law enforcement if they see any suspicious persons, crimes or other information they consider relevant by calling 911 or the sheriff's office at 706-367-8718.
