Even though Elaine Nix was murdered 21 years ago, her family and friends have not given up hope that her killer or killers will be found and brought to justice. Again, they have scheduled a candlelight vigil at the young woman's grave this year, hoping the event will prompt someone to come forward with information in the cold case murder.

Nix, who was 18 at the time of her death, was last heard from on Sept. 20, 1999 when she stopped at Zack's Food Rack off Candler Highway in Gainesville to call her boyfriend. Her nude body was discovered nine days later near an industrial park in Buford. The clothes she was wearing the night she disappeared have never been found.

Anyone who wants to attend the vigil is invited to do so. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Nix's gravesite at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville.
