On October 30, the McDonald's restaurant on Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville will get a little bit spookier...and more furry.
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is hosting a free 'Howl-O-Ween' vaccine clinic in the parking lot of the restaurant for dogs.
From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., or until supplies last, dog owners can get their furry friends vaccinated for rabies and DAPPV.
Sam Threadgill, chief philanthropy officer for the Humane Society, said the clinic is an effort by a new HSNEGA outreach committee to assist low-income pet owners.
"We would love to serve others in the community that aren't necessarily being served with the other services we offer, so someone who can't even really afford the low-cost vaccines that we offer," said Threadgill.
Threadgill referred to services offered by HSNEGA's Christian-David Healthy Pet Clinic, located next door to the adoption center.
The 'Howl-O-Ween' clinic is in partnership with McDonald's and Petco Love, formerly known as the Petco Foundation, which will provide the vaccines.
Threadgill said the event is also an opportunity to educate the public on diseases that can harm your pet.
"At this event, we will provide education on other things, not just the stuff we're offering," said Threadgill. "If people have concerns about heartworm, or they don't understand what it is, we will be providing that information and next steps on what they can do."
In addition to the vaccines, the Humane Society is making the event fun and festive with costume contests for dog and human, Trunk or Treat and free McDonald's meals for kids.
"Just come dressed up, you or your pet, because we will be giving away prizes...McDonald's has some really cool baskets they're making that will include some really cool stuff," said Threadgill. "Every kid will get a coupon for a free [McDonald's] meal, whether it's a Happy Meal or even a value meal if they're a little bit older. We encourage people to come dressed up, bring their Trick-or-Treating bags and have some fun with us!"
Threadgill said no appointment is necessary for the clinic. Vaccines will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
There is no limit to how many pets a person can bring to the event for a vaccine, either, according to Threadgill.
