A deputy with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office suffered non-life-threatening injuries when his patrol car and a private vehicle were involved in a crash Monday afternoon.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy in a Twitter post as Cpl. Robert Loewen.

The post said Loewen was traveling on Buford Drive toward Ga. 316 when the driver of the private vehicle attempted to make a left turn in front of him onto Swanson Drive. Loewen swerved to avoid a collision and made contact with the private vehicle.

A report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution said the cruiser then struck a utility pole and became tangled in the guy wire.

Loewen was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, according to the information shared on Twitter.

The accident was reported at 3:37 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15.

The Lawrenceville Police Department is investigating the accident. Investigators have released no other information.
