The Isakson Initiative has announced a memorial service to celebrate the life of former U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will be held in January.
According to a press release, the service will take place at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. The address of the church is 3180 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.
All attendees are asked to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and wear masks during the service. Instead of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Isakson Initiative, a nonprofit aimed at raising awareness and funding related to neurocognitive diseases, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The nonprofit was created by Isakson following his retirement, and it continues to follow his lifelong commitment to public service. Donations can be made at www.isaksoninitiative.com or mailed to P.O. Box 250116, Atlanta, Georgia 30325.
The late Isakson passed away on Dec. 19, at 76. He served as a senator for almost 15 years before resigning from office in Dec. 2019, over concerns related to Parkinson’s disease. In total, Isakson served in elected office for more than four decades.
“The tributes to Johnny have meant so much to our family, and we thank everyone who has been sending their thoughts and saying prayers,” Isakson’s wife, Dianne Isakson said. “Johnny touched so many lives, and we look forward to this opportunity to celebrate his life with family and friends while carrying on his work with The Isakson Initiative.”
