Two Hall County men are embarking today on a unique, yet challenging fundraising for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier.
Morgan House and Peter Truong will run four miles every four hours for 48 hours, starting at noon today. Their goal is to raise $5,000 for the local charity.
Called the 4x4x48 challenge, the event was created by a former U.S. Navy Seal, David Goggins. House and Truong completed the challenge last year.
"It was more difficult that I expected, to be honest," House said.
The men were interviewed about the challenge earlier this week on WDUN's "Mornings on Maine Street" will Bill Maine.
House said they chose the Boys & Girls Clubs become of the important work they do in challenging young people both physically and mentally. House is one of the club's newest board members, and his son attends an after-school program sponsored by the club.
Developing stamina and find time to sneak in some naps are the most critical part of the challenge, the men said.
"We were looking for a challenge that would challenge people physically and mentally," House said. "The sleeping part, or the lack of sleep, is the mental aspect of this challenge that is most difficult. Getting those couple of hours of sleep is quite difficult. You can get though the first day pretty easily. The second day is where it starts hurting a little."
Truong said the men got through last year's challenge by writing out each of their runs, then marking them off when they got completed.
"It seems like something so small," he said. "We only have four more runs, or three more. It was actually the little things that motivated us."
The men are inviting the community to participate. They said fellow runners can join for all or part of the challenge. More importantly, they hope people will consider a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs.
"One hundred percent of your donations will go straight to the Boys & Girls Club of Lanier,' House said.
