A toddler from Forsyth County who fell into a swimming pool on a family vacation last week died Thursday.
Various media outlets in Florida had reported the April 9 incident, saying the family had lost sight of Leland Rudeen, 2, and found her unconscious in the pool of the vacation rental home in Marathon. The child had been hospitalized at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami until the time of her death.
A GoFundMe page for the family said the accident happened on the little girl's second birthday.
A post on the Facebook page of Benjamin Rudeen, Leland's father, said the family decided their child should be an organ donor.
"Despite our immense loss we have chosen to do good with what has happened and will be giving up to 6 babies a chance to live because of our most precious angel. She was always very caring and always wanted to help others. It only seems right that with her death we are giving her the chance to save others," the post said.
Funeral services for Leland Rudeen are pending.
