Six students and a bus driver were taken to the hospital following a school bus accident in the South Hall County area Friday afternoon.
Hall County School District spokesman Stan Lewis said the bus was transporting students home from World Language Academy Elementary when the accident occurred. Lewis said it did not appear any of those hurt suffered serious injuries, but all of them were transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the bus was traveling west on Poplar Springs Road when it came upon another vehicle stopped in the roadway. The bus driver, Cheryl Winterrowd, 63, of Braselton was following too closely and had to swerve to avoid hitting the other vehicle. The bus travelled off the roadway and first hit a mailbox, and then a tree.
Winterrowd was cited for failure to maintain lane and warned for following too closely.
