The Peach State FCU C.A.R.E.S. Foundation has announced a six-year, $60,000 commitment to the Tim Lee Boys & Girls Club in Habersham County.
According to a release from Peach State FCU, the club’s steering committee has a goal of raising $1 million in combined one-time and annual financial commitments. Habersham County Schools Superintendent and steering committee member Matthew Cooper said that the long-term goal will be to operate two facilities in Habersham County.
“We have already raised enough funds to operate an all-day summer camp which is projected to serve 100 students in grades 4-7 at no cost to our Habersham families,” Cooper said in the release. “I am personally very excited about the prospect of having a Boys and Girls Club here in Habersham County. I believe it has the potential to be the most significant community initiative regarding helping our at-risk youth outside of the school day.”
The Boys & Girls Club is named after Tim Lee, former director of Habersham’s Economic Development Committee.
The Peach State FCU C.A.R.E.S. Foundation, launched in March, is aimed at helping community members within the credit union’s service area.
“We are so pleased to be a part of this important initiative in Habersham County,” Foundation President Demitra Houlis said in the release. “Peach State was founded by educators 60 years ago and the Foundation honors those roots in education through our support of children, educators and school systems throughout our footprint. We look forward to supporting this organization as they grow and provide this vital service to the youth in our community.”
