A Winder woman who suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle accident late last month has died as a result of those injuries.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department said the accident happened on April 26, and 72-year-old Martha Wood died Monday, May 10.

Police investigators said Wood appears to be the at-fault driver in the accident, which happened on Atlanta Highway near Fowler Mill Road and involved three vehicles. A press release from ACCPD said Wood veered out of her lane of traffic and side-swiped a passenger car. That crash caused a chain reaction, pushing the car struck by Wood head-on into a third vehicle.

The driver of the third vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said this is the tenth fatal vehicle crash of 2021 in Athens-Clarke County.
