Murrayville Park gets a fresh face, reopens to the public this Saturday

One of the victims of the recession a decade ago was Murrayville Park in North Hall County, but this Saturday, after a complete facelift, the park will reopen to the public.

Becky Ruffner, Marketing and Public Relations Specialist for Hall County Parks & Leisure, said county officials were cautious after the economic downturn, but a couple of years ago, they began working on a re-opening plan for the park on Bark Camp Road. 

"We knew that the economy had made a comeback, the county had been very frugal in how it managed its funds during that period and in 2019, we made the decision to go ahead and restore the park and work towards a new opening of the park," Ruffner said. 

The footprint for Murrayville Park was already in place, but after sitting vacant for 10 years, the park needed some TLC. Ruffner said the county has restored, renovated and replaced amenities, and they've made some additions.

"There are four brand new tennis courts that have also been lined for pickleball play," Ruffner said. "Those are new to the park - there were not tennis courts there before." 

Ruffner said park patrons will also enjoy a new playground, a refurbished ball field, a multi-use field, a pavilion and renovated restrooms. But, there's one feature of the park that didn't cost a penny - the view of the North Georgia mountains.

"If it's a clear day and you're on that high point in the park and you head down the hill to the playground and the pavilion, there is a beautiful, sweeping view across that valley that allows you a gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge mountains beyond that," Ruffner said. 

Murrayville Park officially reopens to the public on Saturday, June 5 at 11 a.m. with a two-hour celebration that includes a free hot dog lunch, games for kids and, of course, a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. Follow this link for complete details on the reopening celebration for Murrayville Park.

Tadmore Park in the Gillsville community was also closed during the economic downturn, and Ruffner said there are plans to reopen that park once they get Murrayville Park up and running. 

After being closed for a decade, Murrayville Park on Bark Camp Road will reopen to visitors on Saturday, June 5.

Restroom facilities at Murrayville Park have been renovated and upgraded.

Children will have a brand new playground awaiting them when Murrayville Park reopens on June 5.

A ceremonial first pitch will be part of grand reopening ceremonies on June 5 at Murrayville Park.

Tennis courts, which can also be used for pickleball, are new additions to the refurbished Murrayville Park.
