Funeral set for Friday for Gainesville firefighter killed in boating accident

Funeral services will be held Friday in Rabun County for a Gainesville firefighter killed in a boating accident over the weekend.

Chandler Patterson, 27, died Saturday after he fell from a tube being pulled by a boat on Lake Tugalo. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the boat operator apparently ran over Patterson. The firefighter's body was recovered from the lake Sunday afternoon.

Patterson, a native of Rabun County, had been employed by the Gainesville Fire Department for about a year and a half.

At the time of his death, Patterson had been married only a few weeks. A GoFundMe account to support Patterson's widow had raised nearly $18,000 by 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30. 

Patterson's body will be transported from Dekalb County to Rabun County Wednesday afternoon, according to Gainesville Fire Department Division Chief Keith Smith. The processional is expected to arrive in Hall County bewtween 2:30 amd 3 p.m., traveling along I-985 to Ga. 365. The processional will then travel along Ga. 365 and Hwy. 441 through Habersham and Rabun counties.
