A Clermont man is facing a list of traffic charges, including DUI, following a four-vehicle traffic accident in North Hall County on Monday.
The Georgia State Patrol said in an email statement that Allie Lee Small, 60, was driving a Dodge truck northbound on Cleveland Highway near Walden Pond Road when he crossed the center line of the road. In the process, he sideswiped a U.S. Postal Service maintenance van being driven by Michael Johnson, 60, of Loganville.
Small's truck then hit a southbound Toyota Camry head-on; a southbound Ford Crown Victoria also hit the Camry, according to troopers.
Small's truck overturned on its side.
The driver of the Camry, Peter Collins, 61, of Cleveland and his front seat passenger, Ryan Anderson, 37, of Cleveland sustained serious injuries in the accident. Both were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. A 14-year-old back seat passenger in the Camry suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Crown Victoria, Johnathan Parks, 32, of Cleveland sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital. A woman and a child in Parks' vehicle were not injured.
The driver of the postal service van was not injured.
Small suffered minor injuries, according to troopers, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. After he was discharged from Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Small was taken to the Hall County Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence-less safe, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the road and four counts of serious injury by vehicle.
The accident was reported at 10:40 a.m. Monday, and Cleveland Highway was closed for more than an hour while the wreckage was cleared.
Small remained in jail as of noon Tuesday.
