A former Hall County school bus driver has been arrested on charges of child molestation and other offenses involving the ongoing sexual abuse of a teenage girl.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office arrested Marvin Nathan Hogan, Jr., 38, of Gainesville on Friday, Aug. 6 following an investigation that was launched six months ago.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said the victim talked to a school counselor about the alleged abuse, and the counselor reported it to a school resource officer at Flowery Branch High School. Booth said the abuse had been ongoing since 2017.

"According to the preliminary investigation, Hogan committed the crimes against the victim at his residence in the 3000 block of Burton Circle," Booth said. "Hogan knew the victim prior to the abuse, which started when the victim was a young teenager - around the time she was in the 8th grade.  Additionally, investigators determined that Hogan provided alcohol and marijuana to the victim on several occasions."

Booth said Hogan's wife also was charged in the case because she was aware her husband was plying the victim with illegal substances.

"Amber Carlberg Hogan...was aware of the alcohol and marijuana but made no effort to stop it, telling the victim to 'be careful' in the use of the substances, according to initial details," Booth said.

Amber Hogan was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was released from jail Saturday, Aug. 7 on a bond of $3,900.

Marvin Hogan has been charged with aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery, child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to Booth. He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.

The Hall County School District issued a statement saying Marvin Hogan was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 16, 2021 as soon as school officials learned of the allegations. The statement said Hogan has not driven a bus since that date. Hogan was hired as a bus driver on Jan. 24, 2020.

"The school district will respond appropriately to address the situation, as the safety of our students is paramount," the statement read.

Booth said the investigation to date has determined none of the criminal activity happened on school property.

"Zero evidence that any of these crimes occurred on Hall County School District property or that Mr. Hogan met the victim or had access to the victim as a result of his employment with the school district," Booth said.

Booth said the investigation into the case continues.
