A Nicholson man remained in the Jackson County Jail following a standoff Thursday night with deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. as deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant on James Ryan Standridge, according to a post on the JCSO Facebook page.

When deputies entered the residence, the 40-year-old Standridge reportedly began firing shots at them from his bedroom.

"Deputies were able to retreat with an elderly lady, removing her from the residence to safety. Deputies had Waterworks Rd. at Cabin Creek Rd. shut down for a short period of time," the post stated. "Deputies were able to keep verbal communication with Standridge and talked him into surrendering."

Standridge was charged with six counts of aggravated Assault on officers, two counts of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of methamphetamine.
