A sewer line blockage is being blamed for a weekend sewage leak that spilled into Forsyth County's Dave Creek.
The Forsyth County Department of Communications said Monday that the spill was discovered last Saturday near the intersection of Daves Creek Drive and Daves Creek Road.
"It is estimated that approximately 19,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Daves Creek," said the department's Assistant Director Russell Brown. "The spill was the result of blockage in the gravity sewer line caused by a buildup of grease, rags and gravel."
Brown said the affected area had been cleaned and limed, and that the county was taking all necessary actions and precautions to remain in accordance with federa' Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
The Georgia branch of the EPD was notified of the incident the day the spill was discovered, and the effected portion of the stream will be monitored for one year.
