A 59-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl died and a woman was injured following an apparent murder-suicide in Barrow County Monday night.

Deputies were dispatched to 181 Celestial Run at around 7:40 p.m. after a caller said that she was on the phone with Rachel Hollifield,34, of Winder when she heard gunshots before the line went quiet.

Upon authorities arriving on the scene, Hollifield explained that Leonard Ahearn, 59, of Winder, had shot her and then shot himself. She also stated that Angelique Ahearn, 11, was in the house as well.

Deputies cleared the residence and located Leonard and Angelique. Leonard was still alive, but Angelique was found dead. According to a press release, both had gunshot wounds.

Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred while Leonard and Hollifield were having an argument. Leonard retrieved a pistol, shot Angelique, then shot Hollifield, leaving her with a wound in her hand.

Hollifield and Leonard were transported to Athens Regional Hospital. Leonard was later pronounced dead and Hollifield is receiving treatment and recovering.

This investigation is still ongoing.
