Gwinnett fire crews rescued one person from a burning apartment building in Lawrenceville Monday night.

In a release, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services officials said crews responded to reports of a fire at Deauville Apartments on Huff Street just before 8:00 p.m. where they found a two-story building with heavy fire in the breezeway. Callers had told authorities that people were trying to escape the building, and crews saw one man waving from a second-story window.

Firefighters were able to both rescue the man and put out the blaze. One person was injured but was released with what officials called non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. According to fire officials, The American Red Cross is working with the apartment managers to find shelter for the displaced residents.
