State and local officials still have not released the name of a fire victim who died Christmas Eve in the Gumlog community.

Franklin County Deputy Coroner Clayton Bryant said one person died in the fire Saturday morning on Buttercup Lane.

“The deceased victim has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab for positive identification, and the four other occupants were taken to a local hospital for treatment,” said Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King in a statement.

The four people who escaped the fire reportedly lived there.

“They consist of an elderly couple and two children under the age of 8,” Bryant said.

King’s office is working with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Gumlog Fire Department on the case.

“The residence was completely destroyed by the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation at this time,” King said.

Investigators continue to probe the Christmas Eve fire that claimed a life and injured four other people in the Gumlog community of Franklin County.
