Girls basketball playoffs: Union, Rabun, Banks, North Forsyth, Buford, East Forsyth march into 2nd round; Dawson, Towns, White fall

COAL MOUNTAIN, Ga. — In dominating fashion, top-seeded and No. 1-ranked North Forsyth rolled into the second round of the Class 7A tournament with a 56-27 win over North Gwinnett on Tuesday at Raider Arena

The Lady Raiders (24-3, Region 6-7A No. 1 seed) got 17 points each from Anna Gliatta and Erin Whalen to lead the way. Gliatta, fresh off an injury and was a game-time decision, hit all of her 17 points in the second half, including 15 from behind the 3-point line. 

Haelim Adle added 10 points. 

After a slow offensive start in the first quarter and trailing the Lady Bulldogs, 9-7, North Forsyth held North Gwinnett (14-13, Region 8-7A No. 4 seed) to just two points in the second quarter to take a 24-11 halftime lead. 

In the second half, the defensive pressure was too much to handle for the Lady Bulldogs, only hitting 16 points. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders blasted the North Gwinnett defense for 32 points in the second half. 

The Lady Raiders will play host to Grayson -- date and time to be announced. 


UNION COUNTY 54, 
COLUMBIA 49

Ava Hunter scored 27 points to lead Union County into the second round of the Class 2A state tournament with the win over Columbia on Tuesday in Blairsville. 

Hunter passed Candace Williams for the Union County scoring record with 1,602 points.


RABUN COUNTY 63,
LOVETT 32

Gracie Deetz scored 20 points and pulled nine rebounds to pace the Lady Wildcats past Lovett in the first round of the Class 2A tournament on Tuesday at home. 

Carlie Saban added 11 points and four steals, and Lucy Hood had 10 points and five steals. 


BANKS COUNTY 44,
PACE ACADEMY 26

Kamry Grier scored 18 points and Addison Hoard had 11 to lead the Lady Leopards to the upset of Pace Academy on the road on Tuesday. 

Carley Segars added seven points in the win. 


WESTMINSTER 52,
DAWSON COUNTY 31

Kirklyn Porter scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers in the loss to Westminster on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A tournament. 

Abby Samples-Slaton chipped in seven points. 

The Lady Tigers cut the Westminster lead to eight points in the third quarter. After that, Westminster went on a 7-0 run to go ahead by 15 points. 


GREATER ATLANTA 61,
WHITE COUNTY 42

Chesnee Freeman scored 10 points to lead the Lady Warriors in the loss to GACS on the road Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A tournament. 

Naomi Roberts and Claire Beckman added eight points each. 


EAST FORSYTH 48,
CEDAR GROVE 22

On a rough shooting night, the Lady Broncos were able to overcome in the win over Cedar Grove at home on Tuesday.

East Forsyth advances to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs where they will be on the road at Region 1-3A No. 1 seed Pierce County. Time and date to be announced.


MT. ZION 63,
TOWNS COUNTY 43

The Lady Indians' season came to an end with the loss to Mt. Zion-Carroll on the road in the first round of the Class A-Public tournament on Tuesday. 


BUFORD 57,
OSBOURNE 49

The Lady Wolves, a No. 2 seed, used a 24-point opening quarter to pace them past Osbourne (15-13, Region 6-7A No. 3 seed) in the first round of the Class 6A state tournament at Buford Arena on Tuesday. 

Buford (23-4, Region 8-6A No. 2 seed) outscored Osbourne, 24-11, in the first quarter and led 35-24 at halftime. 

Tatum Ozment scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the first half. Mackenzie Pickens turned in 12 points, while Tamori Plantin added 10. 

Osbourne cut the Lady Wolves' lead, 47-41, at the end of the third quarter. 

Buford will travel to Brunswick in the second round of the tournament. Time and date to be announced.
